Founded in 1890, the University of Chicago sits in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the south side of Chicago and is known for an intellectual culture often described as where 'fun goes to die' -- said with affection. Its Core curriculum requires roughly a third of undergraduate coursework in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, framed by the Socratic small-class discussions UChicago helped pioneer. The university claims more than a hundred Nobel laureates and is the birthplace of the Chicago school of economics.
